Before becoming a therapist, Lisa (she/they) worked as a writer and adjunct professor teaching ethics, gender studies, and philosophy. Along the way, they realized that ideas were incomplete without an attention to the emotions, intuitions, and bodily sensations that come along with them. Lisa’s love of the therapy process is born from this desire to invite all parts of lived experience to be present, accepted, and shared. Their academic research area is in feminist ethics, post-colonial theory, and Continental philosophy with a focus on violence, oppression, and vulnerability.

Lisa was born on a farm in rural Illinois and then moved to Tucson when she was in third grade. She has also lived in Atlanta and Paris. She moved to Portland, OR, where she currently lives, in 2011.

Lisa is an only child of a single mom and identifies as part of the large group of people who are involuntarily childless. They also identify as a sober member of an alcoholic family system, a survivor of emotional abuse, fat positive, anti-racist, and part of the queer community.
